The Yamaha MT-15 V2 remains one of the most exciting streetfighter motorcycles in India’s 150-160cc segment as of 2025. Launched with significant updates in August 2025.
This bike combines aggressive styling, advanced technology, and thrilling performance. It’s the sibling of the Yamaha R15 V4, offering a more upright riding position for city commuting while retaining sporty dynamics.
Design and Styling
The 2025 model introduces fresh color options that enhance its urban appeal:
- Ice Storm (new global MT series shade, DLX only)
- Vivid Violet Metallic (DLX only)
- Metallic Silver Cyan
- Metallic Black
These vibrant shades, combined with updated graphics, make the bike stand out on the road.
The lightweight Deltabox frame and aluminium swingarm contribute to its nimble character. At just 141 kg kerb weight, it’s easy to maneuver in traffic. The upright riding posture, wide handlebar, and 810 mm seat height suit most Indian riders.
Engine and Performance
At the heart of the MT-15 V2 is Yamaha’s proven 155cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine with Variable Valve Actuation (VVA).
- Power → 18.4 PS at 10,000 rpm
- Torque → 14.1 Nm at 7,500 rpm
Paired with a 6-speed gearbox and assist & slipper clutch, it offers smooth shifts and quick downshifts without rear-wheel hop.
The VVA technology ensures strong low-end torque for city riding and high-rev excitement on open roads. Top speed is around 130 kmph, with brisk acceleration – 0-100 kmph in under 12 seconds.
Traction Control System (TCS) is now standard, preventing wheelspin on slippery surfaces. The engine is E20 fuel-compatible and OBD-2 compliant, meeting the latest emission norms.
Features Tech-Loaded for 2025
The 2025 update brings premium tech to the MT-15 V2, especially in the DLX variant.
- Colour TFT display (DLX only) with turn-by-turn navigation
- Bluetooth connectivity via Y-Connect app (call/SMS alerts, ride history, maintenance tracking, parking location)
- Upside-down front forks for better handling
- Dual-channel ABS option in select variants
- LED lighting all around
- Side-stand engine cut-off
The standard variant retains a digital LCD console but misses the TFT and advanced connectivity.
Mileage and Fuel Efficiency
Yamaha claims an ARAI-certified mileage of 56.87 kmpl for the MT-15 V2.
Real-world figures vary:
- City riding: 45-50 kmpl
- Highway: Up to 55 kmpl
With a 10-litre fuel tank, you can expect a range of over 450 km on a full tank. Efficient riding and the refined engine mapping contribute to these numbers, making it economical for daily use.
Suspension, Brakes, and Handling
- Front — 37mm upside-down forks
- Rear — Linked-type monocross suspension
Braking duties are handled by disc brakes on both ends (282mm front, 220mm rear), with dual-channel ABS available. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with 100/80 front and 140/70 rear radial tyres for superior grip.
The bike’s low weight and rigid frame make it incredibly agile – perfect for weaving through traffic or attacking twisties.
